Who Buys Ceremonial Cacao Paste, and For What

Ceremonial cacao is a use, not a grade. There is no certifying body, no legal definition and no laboratory test that turns a paste into ceremonial cacao — what exists is a set of production decisions that buyers in this segment expect, and the traceability to prove they were taken. This is how the segment actually uses our paste.

Ceremony facilitators and retreat programmes

Facilitators buy for a specific dose format and a clean ingredient list: pure paste, nothing added. What they check is variety, that the cacao is fine aroma rather than a high-yield clone, and that the supply will still be the same next season.

Wellness and speciality brands

Brands building a cacao line need a paste that survives their own packing and storage without blooming, plus a documented origin they can put on the label. We supply the record; the brand supplies the claim, within the rules of its own market.

Private label and own-brand lines

For brands developing their own product we work through formulation and approved prototypes before any volume run, because a ceremonial line that is signed off on a sample and then changes at scale damages the brand, not the supplier.

Chocolate makers and pastry

Because the paste is unsweetened pure cacao, chocolate makers and pastry teams use it as a single-origin base, adjusting sugar and butter themselves rather than reverse-engineering someone else's recipe.

What We Supply — and What We Do Not

This is a segment where a lot is claimed and little is documented. We would rather be precise about the boundary than sell a word.

  • Pure unsweetened cacao paste from fine-aroma varieties of an ancestral genetic line, produced at our own facility.
  • Block formats for commercial supply and 1 to 5 kg sample boxes for evaluation, with a commercial MOQ of 250 kg.
  • Private label with a formulation and prototype stage approved by you before any volume production.
  • Cadmium and heavy-metal analysis per lot on request, against the limit that applies in your market.
  • Traceability to the farm network in Manabí, Esmeraldas and Pichincha.
  • FOB Guayaquil for sea freight and FOB Quito (Tababela) for air shipments.
  • No 'ceremonial grade' certificate, because none exists. Any supplier presenting one is presenting a marketing document.
  • No CCN-51 in ceremonial paste — this line is fine aroma only.
  • No organic certification of our own, and no fair trade claim implied by it: they are separate schemes held by specific certified operators.
  • No sugar, dairy, lecithin or flavourings added to the paste.
  • No therapeutic or medical claims. What cacao does in the body is regulated differently in every market, and that statement is not ours to make.
  • No third-party chocolate brands, and no cold-chain-dependent small format without agreeing the temperature conditions first.

Origin & Traceability

Our ceremonial cacao is crafted from selected fine-aroma beans (Nacional Arriba, balao and amelonado, from an ancestral genetic line) harvested across our network of allied farms in Manabí, Esmeraldas and Pichincha. We follow a regenerative, family-farming protocol: chacra polyculture systems with high biodiversity, zero agrochemicals, mountain-microorganism bio-ferments, and preserved 'mother trees' that protect soil microbiota — a process that actively includes women from the community. The harvest is received with a brief harmonizing ritual before processing begins. The grinding process is executed on traditional granite stone mills at low speeds to keep temperatures below 45°C, protecting the delicate active compounds, enzymes, and antioxidants. Each batch has absolute traceability, establishing a transparent chain of custody. This same standard of traceability and regenerative origin is what already supports our exports to demanding wellness markets like Japan.

Food Safety

Under the European Union Regulation No 488/2014, the maximum cadmium level for chocolate with 50% or more cocoa solids is 0.80 mg/kg, and for pure cocoa mass or powder, it is 0.60 mg/kg. We offer ICP-MS cadmium testing per batch on request, backed by the plant's ongoing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification, so your compliance documentation is ready before shipment.

B2B Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this cacao ceremonial grade?
Ceremonial grade requires fine-aroma beans of ancestral origin, grown under a regenerative family-farming protocol (chacra polyculture, zero agrochemicals, active inclusion of women), gentle fermentation, and low-temperature stone grinding (below 45°C) to prevent the degradation of active phytochemicals — the same standard that already supports our exports to demanding markets like Japan.
Is the ceremonial cacao paste free from sugar and dairy?
Yes. Our ceremonial paste is 100% pure, containing no added sugar, milk, soy lecithin, or gluten. It is a clean-label product suitable for wellness-focused consumers.
Do you offer private label packaging for wellness brands?
Yes, we can mold the paste into custom shapes, engrave your logo on 1 kg blocks, and handle retail packaging in Ecuador under your brand name.
How should I store ceremonial cacao to prevent fat blooming?
Keep it in a cool, dry place between 16°C and 20°C. Avoid exposing the paste to direct sunlight, humidity, and strong external odors.
What Incoterms do you use for ceremonial paste?
We use FCA (Free Carrier) for air shipments and FOB Guayaquil for refrigerated ocean freight orders.
Is there such a thing as certified ceremonial cacao?
No. Ceremonial cacao is not a grade, a standard or a certification — there is no issuing body and no test that confers it. What can be documented is the variety, the origin, the absence of additives and the analytical profile of the lot, and that is what we provide.
Why do you exclude CCN-51 from this line?
Because the ceremonial segment buys aroma and heritage genetics, and CCN-51 is a high-yield clone selected for productivity, not for flavour. Mixing it in would be commercially convenient and technically dishonest.
Can you supply small formats for direct consumer use?
Small formats depend on temperature-controlled handling that has to be agreed before we commit to it, while larger blocks travel without that restriction. Our commercial team confirms what is workable for your destination case by case.
Do you make health claims about ceremonial cacao?
No. Health statements about cacao are regulated market by market, and in the EU only a narrow flavanol claim exists under defined conditions. We supply the product and its analysis; the claim, if any, is the responsibility of whoever puts the product on the market.
